Walmart / Multi-year retail engagement
Tens of millions of SKUs, hundreds of campaigns.
The Walmart marketing team needed a tool to build and manage the item lists behind every promotional campaign -- rollbacks, price offers, event-specific discounts -- across a product catalog in the tens of millions. We built MCIS, the internal platform that replaced their manual process and stayed the standard tool for years.
The problem
Creating promotional campaigns at this scale meant associating specific SKUs with specific events and pricing strategies across every store. The data lived in a massive internal database. The campaign management system lived separately. There was no integrated tool for the marketing team to bring these together, build item lists, collaborate with colleagues, and push finalized campaigns downstream. Everything happened manually.
The client was Walmart. The catalog runs into the tens of millions of SKUs, with the data spread across an enterprise Teradata warehouse and a separate campaign management system.

What we built
MCIS -- Merchant Campaign Item Selector -- deployed inside Walmart's own IT environment. The platform pulls from their Teradata warehouse (tens of millions of SKUs with full item detail) and their Aprimo campaign management system.
Marketing team members log in via Walmart SSO, access their campaigns, and build item lists that function like collaborative spreadsheets: colleagues can be invited to view, edit, and approve. Quality scoring was integrated to rank items. Full history of items from past events is accessible to inform pricing decisions for future campaigns.

Teradata Integration
Real-time access to tens of millions of Walmart product records with price, description, and linked item data pulled directly from their Teradata warehouse.
Campaign Item Management
Collaborative item lists tied to specific campaigns and events, with invite-based editing, pricing history, and quality scoring.
Aprimo Integration
Campaign list sync with Walmart's Aprimo campaign management system, closing the loop from item selection to publishing.
Enterprise Security
Deployed inside Walmart's own IT environment, with SSO via Walmart identity and role-based access control.
The outcome
MCIS replaced a fully manual campaign-building process and became the standard internal tool for years. Walmart marketing teams could search tens of millions of SKUs, build collaborative item lists, reference historical pricing, and sync directly to Aprimo -- all inside Walmart's own IT environment.
